Frequently Asked Questions.

Philosophy and what you can expect

In our first session I’ll ask you to tell me about yourself, your background, and what brings you to therapy, we will also do a brief review of your history. You will be encouraged to ask questions and discuss your goals. It’s very normal to be nervous about therapy, especially if you haven’t been before. My job is to help you feel at ease and encourage you that you made it through the door.

As your counselor, I will be working to build trust and understand your story as we start the therapy process so that I can better know what makes you the person that you are, along with what your particular needs may be. This can take time, and I want to help you practically discern what works well for you and perhaps what doesn’t as we tackle the challenges you face. I will be present for you to process what you are comfortable sharing and desire to work on, learn how that impacts you today, and walk with you towards growth and change.

This process will be specific and unique to you and your needs, I’m excited to walk alongside you through it.

How long can you expect to be in therapy? A national research study found that 50 percent of psychotherapy clients had made improvement within eight sessions of therapy, 75 percent showed improvement after six months of therapy, and some choose to remain in therapy for years. Of course, showing improvement is not the same as successfully completing treatment. Not everyone needs therapy, some individuals do need it, but anyone can benefit from it in striving for self-improvement, cognitive growth, and depth in knowing oneself. Most therapists will tell you that the length of treatment depends upon the nature of the problem, the severity of the issue, and the treatment goals selected. Your work is unique to you.
